FAQs
Is yellow gold a popular option for engagement rings?
Gold engagement rings have withstood the test of time in regards to style and popularity. Whilst at one point platinum and white gold were favourable choices, yellow gold continues to regain popularity over recent years.
Yellow gold is the epitome of tradition and due to its versatility offers both a classic yet contemporary look to your engagement ring.
How do I choose the best metal for my engagement ring?
The higher the karat of gold, the higher the purity of the gold. 18k gold is more expensive due to its purity level, however, it is also the softer of the gold metals, by choosing a lower level karat you are promised a more durable finish. Effectively, in line with your budget and the overall look, at Holts we can cater for every gold metal form you require. We only offer 18ct gold especially with diamond rings. 18ct white is harder than 9ct white, 18ct yellow is softer than 9ct yellow, due to different alloys added to the melt. We use 18ct, which has 75% of pure gold in it, because it is precious. Best quality diamonds and gems deserve to be framed in the best metal possible. We do not use 21ct or 24ct gold because it is too soft. 18ct is a perfect balance between precious and durable.
What stones look best with yellow gold bands?
Yellow gold has a wonderful way of complimenting each of the precious stones, which include diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds. The overall look achieved by yellow gold, alongside these gemstones, is one of luxury and tradition.
The warming tones enhance the vibrancy of each gemstone as yellow gold has the ability to make an emerald ‘pop’, intensify the appearance of rubies, and add a luxuriously regal finish to sapphires.
